AdSense
AdSense is Google's advertising program, allowing webmasters to monetize their websites. Webmasters can open an AdSense account, and start displaying adverts selected by google on their websites. Every time a visitor clicks on an advert, the webmaster earns commission. AdSense works in conjunction with AdWords. |

Advertising
Advertising is the term used to describe any process by which products and services are promoted on the internet. |

AdWords
AdWords is Google's text based advertising program, which allows webmasters to promote their website within the google search results and on participating external websites. The webmaster opens an AdWords account and creates adverts, which will appear whenever relevant searchs are run. The webmaster pays a fee each time their advert is clicked on. A bidding system allows webmasters to outbid other sites, to ensure their advert appears at the top of the listings. |

Affilaite Network
An Affiliate Network is made up of a collection of merchants, wishing to promote their products, and a group of affiliates, who wish to promote said products. Affiliate Networks are very popular because they give webmasters access to hundreds of companies and products which they can advertise. The affiliate receives a commission on any sale that they make through their website. |

Affiliates
Affiliate is a term used to describe the relationship between an entity, such as a webmaster, and other entities, such as other webmasters or large companies. The term is usually used to imply that one entity is helping promote another in return for a reward. |

Alexa Ranking
Alexa is a well respected website that produces stats for websites, including the number of visitors they receive the number of page views. As part of their stats, they utilize a ranking system, known as the Alexa Ranking. The Alexa Ranking is a number, which represents how popular the website is. Popular websites such as Google, are listed as number 1 or 2, where as smaller websites may have a number in the millions. The lower the number, the bigger and more popular the website. |

Anchor Text
Anchor text is the visible text in a hyperlink. Anchor text plays an important part in search engine algorithms (formulas the search engines use to rank search results) as the anchor text usually relates to the content of the landing page. It is therefore important to ask people who link to your website to use anchor text that is similar to your site or page description, to maximise the effect of the anchor text. |

ASP
ASP stands for 'Active Server Pages' and is Microsoft's server-side technology for dynamically-generated web pages. Dynamically-generated web pages are pages that alter or update automatically, such as search engine results. |

Authoring Tool
An 'Authoring Tool' is a software application that is used to create multimedia content, such as interactive menus, for use on websites. |
