Dead Link
A dead link is a link on the internet that points to a page or website that is permanently unavailable, probably because the page or site is no longer active. Dead links are common place on the internet but it is considered unprofessional to keep dead links on your website. |

DHTML
DTHML is short for Dynamic HTML, and is a technique for creating interactive websites (where information changes in real time) by combining the static HTML language with a client-side scripting language, such as JavaScript, and CSS sheets. |

Directory
In computing, a directory, catalog, or folder, is an entity in a file system which contains a group of files and other directories. A typical file system contains thousands of files, and directories help organize them by keeping related files together. A directory contained inside another directory is called a subdirectory of that directory. Together, the directories form a hierarchy, or tree structure. |

DNS
DNS stands for Domain Name Server, and is a system for storing and distributing information about host and domain names across a network, such as the internet. DNS also provides IP addresses (the unique reference that distinguishes one website from another) and lists the mail exchange servers that control email addresses and the domain names they are associated with. |

Domain Name
A domain name is the unique reference for a computer or server on the internet that distinguishes it from other systems on the internet. Domain names can be thought of as internet post codes. When you register a domain name for a website, you are actually registering the unique reference that will tell web browsers how to find your website. |

Domain Name Registration
Domain name registration is the process of registering a domain name so that no-one else can use it. Domain names can be registered through a domain name registrar, or a web hosting company. Domain names must be paid for, and must be renewed every 12 months. |

Download
Downloading is the process by which information is retrieved from any computer onto your computer. When you download a picture or file off the internet onto your computer, you are transferring information from the server hosting the website, onto your PC. |

Dynamic Webpage
A dynamic webpage is a page that is automatically updated with new information, without the webmaster being involved. Search engines are good examples of dynamic web-pages, because their search results pages are updated every time a new search is run. |
