Link Farms
Link Farm is a term used to describe a large group of web pages that contain links to one another, or another specific page. Link farms are used to try to fool search engines into gaining high search rankings. Many search engines look at the number of incoming links when deciding a websites importance (amongst many other things). By creating a large number of pages all linking to one another, or to a specific other page, the link farm can create the illusion that its pages are very popular because of the number of links between them. For a period the link farm may rank very highly within a search engine, until the link farm is discovered and banned from the search engine. |

Link popularity is used by many search engines to help determine a websites search rankings, the theory being that the more high quality links a website has received, the more popular and important the website must be. Unfortunately many websites look to exploit Link Popularity through the use of Link Farms. |
