Search Engine
A search engine is a website that allows internet users to search for specific information using a set of words or phrases. The search engine uses these words or phrases to produce a list of websites containing the information that is being searched for. |

SEO
SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization, and is the process by which webmasters optimize their web pages to meet search engine requirements, to achieve better search result placement. Basic SEO includes using meta tags to give each page a title, description and set of keywords. |

SMTP
SMTP is a simple, text based protocal for specifying and transferring message text, such as emails. |

Spam
SPAM is the term used to describe unwanted emails that people receive. A lot of SPAM is in the form of adverts or offers, sent out by businesses trying to attract new customers. Some SPAM contains adult images or themes. To try to prevent SPAM, most email providers now offer free SPAM blockers as part of their email package. |

Spider
Spider is the common name given to the program that search engines use to search the internet for new web pages and websites to add to their index. Search engines often give their spiders names, like googlebot or msnbot. |

Static Webpage
A static webpage is a webpage that does not automatically update or alter, but shows the same information every time it is viewed. This glossary page is a static webpage as it does not change from one day to the next. Static web-pages can be updated manually by the webpage owner. |

Sub Domain
Sub Domain refers to the location of a domain that is part of a larger domain name. The root doamin, for example www.test.com, is said to be at the top, whilst sub domains, such as www.one.test.com are listed at the bottom for hierarchical purposes. |
